Several methods of extending a given complete measure are discussed. The existence of a nonseparable extension of the Lebesgue measure which preserves null sets is proved under the Continuum Hypothesis. The method combines a method of Kakutani and Kodaira, and Luzin's method of constructing a Luzin set. The possibility of the proof under Martin's Axiom, or even under some weaker assumption, was communicated to the author by a referee. This information appears without further reference.
