A version of the Conley index was presented in the author's paper [Topology Appl. 138, No. 1--3, 167--188 (2004; Zbl 1041.37006)]. Among others, the continuation property of the index was proved there. It was based on an assumption on some proper behavior of index pairs. In the present paper an alternative proof of that property, without any additional assumptions, is given.
