A co-compact Fuchsian group \(\Gamma\) is a discrete subgroup of \(\text{PSL}(2,\mathbb{R}) \) with compact orbit space. Assuming that \(\Gamma\) is not perfect, upper bounds on the length of its derived series are obtained. This is used to compute the derived series of some triangle groups.
