An IBV problem with zero boundary condition for the nonlinear higher dimensional wave equation is considered. One is concerned with the existence of attractors in case interior damping grows faster than polynomials at infinity. Under some special, quite restrictive assumptions, one proves the asymptotic compactness of the solutions and one shows that the continuous semigroup generated by the IBV problem possesses a global attractor.
