The aim is to calculate the flow of polymer blends in the melt conveying zone of a single screw extruder and to evaluate typical process characteristics, e.g. the residence time distribution (RTD) function. The obtained results show that velocity fields, volumetric flow rates, and RTD functions are in qualitative agreement with predictions given by Navier-Stokes equations and the power-law model.
