For deflection functions without compact support, Carleman estimates for the two-dimensional non-stationary Lamé system in linear elasticity with stress (Neumann) boundary condition are established. Among possible applications of these Carleman estimates, the author mention the sharp unique continuation/conditional stability results for the Cauchy problem for the Lamé system, the exact controllability of the Lamé system with stress boundary conditions by means of controls in a subdomain or on a sub-boundary, and an inverse problem of determining the Lamé coefficients of the elastic, isotropic and inhomogeneous medium, and the density by deflection measurements in a subdomain.
