A major example for the type of boundary value problem considered in the paper is the following: In the conformal class of th Euclidean metric on the unit ball \(B^n\) (\(n\geq3\)), find a metric that has vanishing scalar curvature on \(B^n\) and scalar curvature presribed by a function on the boundary \(S^{n-1}\). Among the results are the construction of ``multi-peak'' solutions with maxima located close to the boundary, and results about the asymptotic behavior of the solutions.
