A multivariate Baskakov-Kantorovich operator, defined as a non-tensor product generalization of the univariate case (introduced by \textit{V. A. Baskakov} [Dokl. Akad. Nauk. SSSR 113, 249--251 (1957; Zbl 0080.05201)]) is introduced and studied. A strong direct \(L^p\)-approximation theorem (obtained by decomposition technique) is established.
