Summary: Direct numerical simulation (DNS) of a turbulent heat transfer in a channel flow with two-dimensional slit has been performed in order to investigate the behaviour of heat transfer behind the slit and the effects of flow contraction on the thermal field. In the wake region, the mean flow becomes asymmetric in the wall-normal direction by Coanda effect. These asymmetry phenomena affect the heat transfer performance. Several differences are found between the turbulent statistics in this study and those of a backward facing step. This can be attributed to the typical flow through the slit.
