The authors consider a compact spin manifold \(M\) equipped with orientation and a spin structure. The index theorem of Atiyah and Singer gives a topological lower bound on the dimension of the kernel of the Dirac operator. The authors show that for generic metrics on \(M\) this bound is attained.
