The authors consider an initial value problem for a neutral functional differential equation with impulses at pre-assigned moments of time and they prove existence and uniqueness results concerning the solutions of the corresponding integral equation and the solutions of the differential system itself. The results are obtained by means of the contraction mapping principle, since some boundedness and Lipschitz conditions are assumed for the functions on the righthand side of the equation. As an example, an impulsive partial functional differential equation is studied.
