This paper is concerned with the convergence behavior of trigonometric finite wave elements. The authors are interested in trigonometric finite wave elements in case of a waveguide structure of the refractive index. In such a framework, the refractive index of the waveguide structure is influenced by gain and temperature. These physical effects lead to a small variation of the refractive index perpendicular to the wave propagation. Such properties are studied in the present paper. The authors also establish the convergence of the corresponding non-conforming discretization.
