In this paper, a solution is proposed for a functional equation arising from multiplication of quantum integers, for the case where the fields of coefficients are of characteristic zero. This problem was posed in a paper of \textit{M. B. Nathanson} [J. Number Theory 103, No. 2, 214--233 (2003; Zbl 1055.39039)].
