This paper is an extended version of the talk of the second author on a conference and is a report on some recent advances in the study of the action of Dirac operators on representations of semi-simple real Lie groups. The main results relate the kernel of the Dirac operator on a direct summand of the tensor product of some representation with a finite dimensional representation to the kernel of the Dirac operator on the factors. The Dirac cohomology is also discussed.
