The authors consider the underdetermined linear system generated by the strip-based projection model in discrete tomography, where the system matrix is row-rank deficient. They determine a subset of the row indices set of the system matrix, corresponding to linearly independent rows. By solving the so obtained subsystem of equations they reduce the cost of an image reconstruction procedure.
