List of species that may be considered as sensitive. Includes species obtained from Institutional / organizations Sensitive Species lists (see below) and from IUCN Red List, filtered using the Threat Squeme. In the latter, we only included those species with threats related to sensitivity, i.e., intentional uses such as collection, trade, extraction, etc. The institutions from which species were obtained include: ALA (Australia), SINP (France), SLU (Swedish Species Information Centre, SBDI Swedish Biodiversity Data Infrastructure), NBN (The National Biodiversity Network, England), and NSSL (National Sensitive Species List, SANBI South African National Biodiversity Institute, South Africa), e-Bird, iNaturalist (Canada), FinBIF (Finish Information Facility), and InfoSpecies (Switzerland). The lists were obtained in 2022 (no updates have been done since then). All the species names listed in the Institutional lists and in IUCN were uploaded to the GBIF Taxonomic Matching Tool, which returns taxonomic validity to the names and keys. The list is part of a Report developed by GBIF in relation to Sensitive Species occurrence data and the potential risks and benefits of data sharing. Report will be released in 2024. It has to be considered that this list represents a general approach to identify sensitive species, and include those that may be sensitive only in particular areas (countries, regions), and/or only in particular seasons (e.g., reproduction seasons).
