\textit{H. M. Srivastava}, \textit{J.-L. Lavoie} and \textit{R. Tremblay} [Can. Math. Bull. 26, 438-445 (1983; Zbl 0504.33007)] proved various addition theorems for two general sequences of functions and considered a number of applications of their results. The authors present several further applications of one of these addition theorems, and prove an interesting extension of the other addition theorem. One of these applications is based heavily upon a special case of a hypergeometric generating function due to \textit{H. M. Srivastava} and \textit{R. G. Buschman} [Trans. Am. Math. Soc. 205, 360-370 (1975; Zbl 0288.33027)].
