The time dependent viscous incompressible flow past a sphere with differential suction and injection on the surface is considered. Expressions for the drag, the free stream velocity, the diffusion of vorticity and the efficiency of the mechanism are analyzed. The inertial effects at low Reynolds numbers are accounted by adopting the method of matched asymptotic technique. The streamline patterns for particular cases are drawn and interesting changes are observed in the theoretical prediction of the flow as time or the flow conditions vary.
