The derivative s' of a rational spline s with \(s_ i=s\) in \([x_{i- 1},x_ i]\) and \(s_ i=A_ i+B_ it+C_ it\) \(2+D_ it\) \(3/(1+pt)\), \(t=(x-x_ i)/\Delta x_ i\), is used for area true approximation of a given histogram. Controlling the parameter p allows to preserve shape, e.g. monotonicity, of the histogram. Some small examples are given.
