M-matrices are matrices all of whose off-diagonal entries are nonpositive and whose inverse exists and is nonnegative. Let \(M^ I\) be the set of all \(n\times n\) matrices whose inverse is an M-matrix. This paper gives an explicit structural characterization of all matrices in the closure of \(M^ I\) under the usual topology which is induced by any matrix norm. The relationship of these results to some other classes of matrices is discussed.
