One gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the canonical homomorphism Pic(R)\(\to Pic(R[S])\) to be an isomorphism, where R is an integral domain, S a nonzero commutative cancellative torsion-free monoid and R[S] the corresponding monoid ring. Interesting corollaries are given.
