By applying a method by the reviewer and \textit{V. E. S. Szabó} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 204, No. 3, 646-654 (1996; Zbl 0871.26011)], the author obtains a new proof of Ky Fan's inequality. He is able to deduce also generalizations as well as converses to this inequality, with interesting connections to the theory of means.
