The authors examine an inverse scattering problem for a dissipative medium. The corresponding physical problem is the simultaneous determination of the permittivity and conductivity of a finite slab. Existence is established under the assumption that the observed reflection data is suitably bounded. An algorithm, based on this existence result, is used to illustrate the reconstruction process.
