An alternative model of vagueness based on the notion of soft sets is suggested and investigated. The membership or belongingness is based on the notion of ordinality instead of the cardinality numerical representation used e.g. in fuzzy set theory. The tight relation of this concept to the \(L\)-sets is shown, and some applications to the theory of choice are described.
