The analysis of the propagation of neutron waves along fuel rods embedded in a moderator requires the solution of a nonlinear equation involving the Hankel function of the first kind and of zero order. The authors transform the standard integral representation of the Hankel function to obtain one which they claim makes the finding of the solution of the equation more manageable.
