A parallel approach to the modified Numerov-like eigenvalue determination for Sturm-Liouville problems (Q1205884)

A modified Numerov method for approximating eigenvalues of Sturm- Liouville problems is considered. This method is associated with eigenfunction approximation by a mixed interpolation of the form: \(a\cos(kx)+b\sin(kx)+cx\). For the determination of possible acceptable values \(k\) a certain algorithm is proposed. The method is implemented on a Helios based parallel processing transputer system. The execution time for the sequential program and for the parallelized version are compared. Time saving with respect to a sequential approach for the determination of \(n\) eigenvalues is commented.
