The paper is a review devoted to studying the tetrahedron equation (Zamolodchikov equation) \(R_{abc}R'_{ade} R''_{bdf} R'''_{cef}=R'''_{cef} R''_{bdf} R'_{ade} R_{abc}\) and its symmetrical properties. Its solution in the framework of the Bazhanov-Baxter model is studied in more detail. The updated list of all solutions is presented, and the generalization to inhomogeneous spin models with two types of Boltzmann weights forming a chessboard type lattice is considered.
