With the help of a Galois field extension of the rational number field a construction of the regular 257-gon is developed. The straightforward conclusions finally providing the desired result are in fact displayed in a very clear way. For several details of the proof, a computer programme for algebraic manipulations (MAPLE) is used. In a final remark, the author eventually shows that the ideas of the proof do even work for certain other primes other than 257, such as 65 537.
