Artin groups, rewriting systems and three-manifolds (Q1295710)

The authors construct finite complete rewriting systems (FCRS) for two classes of Artin groups, those of finite type and those based on trees. For the first class they give two different FCRS's, the sets of normal forms of them correspond to biautomatic structures of the groups. For the second class they use the fact that a group in the class is the fundamental group of a compact three-manifold. In the last section they give conditions for Artin groups to be fundamental groups of compact three-manifolds.
