    A program which calculates either the photonic band structure or the causal Green's function for photons incident on a complex dielectrics structure are presented. The proposed method is based on a systematic derivation of the finite difference equation within a transparent formalism allowing the use of non-orthogonal coordinate systems without the usual computational overheads. The discrete versions of Maxwell's equation can be used to integrate the field forwards in time.
