The paper presents an efficient numerical method for the study of interconversion between modulus and compliance functions of a linear viscoelastic material, when both the source and target transient functions admit a Prony (exponential) representation. The determination of target function is reduced to solving a system of linear algebraic equations for unknown coefficients of exponential series. The method is general enough to describe both viscoelastic solids and liquids. Detailed computational procedures and selection of values for parameters illustrate the method. The authors also discuss the effect of different choices of relaxation and retardation times on the accuracy.
