The author examines the effect of local geometric imperfection (imperfection in shape) on the buckling and postbuckling of laminated cylindrical shells subjected to axial loading and uniform temperature change. The boundary layer type theory is used to obtain the load-deflection curve. It is shown that, in many cases, under thermal loading the cylindrical shell is insensitive to imperfections.
