When the usual longitudinal line method is used to solve the heat equation under Dirichlet boundary conditions, the resulting inhomogeneous linear system of ordinary differential equations can be solved in closed form. (The authors call this the ``eigenvalue method''.) In the paper, derivation of the closed form solution is given in great detail. Also, numerical results for two test problems are given.
