This paper was dedicated to Bjarni Jónsson on the occasion of his 70th birthday [cf. also the paper reviewed below]. From the introduction: ``This survey of Bjarni's contributions to lattice theory will be loosely organized around a series of problems on which he worked.'' The following areas are dealt with: the structure of free lattices; varieties of lattices, representations of lattices; the amalgamation property; function lattices. A big open problem posed in the present article (Problem 5) concerns the representation of Arguesian lattices. Bibliography: 89 items.
