The authors study the problem whether Lagrange equations for a variational problem on an integrable Lie algebroid can be obtained by a limiting process from a related problem on the corresponding Lie groupoid. They provide an intrinsic method of doing this when the Lagrangian is quadratic on the fibers of the Lie algebroid.
