The paper is concerned with a mixed finite element Galerkin method for a single-phase linear Stefan problem in one space dimension. Based on the mixed method, semidiscrete as well as fully discrete approximations are given; supplemented by an existence result concerning the semidiscrete approximation. Additionally, an error analysis of both the semidiscrete and fully discrete problem is given.
