This paper deals with helical polynomial space curves. Two types of Pythagorean-hodograph (PH) quintic helix are identified: the ``monotone-helical'' PH quintics and general helical PH quintics. Characterizations and construction algorithms for the monotone-helical PH quintics and a sufficient condition for PH quintics to belong to the general class of helical PH quintics are given. First-order Hermite interpolation algorithms are developed for both helical PH quintic types.
