A method for computing radiation transfer based on equations averaged over the spectrum (Q1569400)

The author analyzes a method for spectral averaging of radiation-transfer equations. The construction of averaged equations is based on allowing for a limited change in the radiation spectrum as a result of a change in the medium temperature, which reduces the sensitivity of the averaged coefficients to the actual change in the radiation spectrum. One characteristic feature of the proposed algorithm is that it automatically leads to the implicit difference scheme of the diffusion approximation in the case of an optically dense medium and to the formulas for optically transparent media.
