A unified convergence analysis for standard Galerkin schemes on nontraditional Shishkin-type meshes applied to singularly perturbed problems is derived. Nontraditional Shishkin meshes separate the boundary layer completely from other regions and allow easier proveable error estimates than with classical meshes of this type.
