An improved adaptive controller is presented which is based on (1) a new adaptation law that reduces the residual and the parameter errors, and (2) a new method (required when the plant is non-minimum phase) to modify the parameter estimates if the estimated model is uncontrollable. (2) enables stable adaptive pole placement and minimizes the offset simultaneously. It improves closed-loop tracking performance and tolerance to disturbances and unmodeled dynamics.
