The design of superstable systems is applied to the problem of tracking a step input for linear time-invariant discrete-time single-input, single-output systems. A linear-programming-based solution is proposed to minimize an upper bound on the \(\ell_\infty\) norm of the tracking error with a fixed-order controller. Two simple examples illustrate the methodology.
