Based on observations on the insular shelf of southwestern Puerto Rico, the drifter trajectories are analyzed in order to determine the dynamical forces most important for driving flow and to quantify eddy diffusivities describing the particle dispersion. Two models are proposed: the first describes the mixing resulting from an idealized flow in three joined channels, and the second estimates dispersion resulting from wind-forced flow and shallow water over variable bathymetry, away from islands.
