The author examines the influence of orientation between the principal stress axes and the material axes when modelling the forming limits for a rolled sheet. The analysis is simplified by assuming that: (i) the deformation occurs under a constant ratio of principal stresses, and (ii) a diffuse necking criterion provides the limit strains. The adopted approach is illustrated by a computational procedure developed by using the classical theory. The method allows for changing stress ratios and for alternative limiting strain criteria.
