The SPRINT package (software for problems in time) for the numerical solution of mathematical models which involve mixed systems of time- dependent algebraic, ordinary, and partial differential equations using the method of lines and differential-algebraic integrations has been developed recently by the authors. The paper provides an overview of the SPRINT software and discusses the difficulties in writing such general- purpose software.
