The author investigates the dynamics of Earth rotation (nutation) under the influence of atmospheric tides which are the result of the interaction between of thermal and transformed gravitational tides of the Earth. It is supposed that the zonal gravitational tides are transformed in the atmosphere in such a manner that all their signals appear in the vicinity of diurnal and semi-diurnal bands from the points of view of the terrestrial observer. It is shown that the principal mechanism of transformation of gravitational tides in the atmosphere is the amplitude modulation of daily oscillations of atmospheric angular momentum.
