In the first part, a mathematical model of the variable gap flat-rolling process for producing strips with variable thickness is presented. A three-dimensional deformation analysis based on the upper bound theorem and on a simple velocity field is considered. The results obtained are compared with experimental data. In the second part, the temperature field and the flow stress of the workpiece are examined, and the influence of rolling speed and reduction ratio on the rolling process is investigated.
