An evolutionary approach for solving optimal control problems, based on a clan and subclan model of natural evolution, is proposed. In this approach, the genealogy information is used in the process of search for an optimal solution. Three selected optimal control problems (linear quadratic, harvest and push-cart problems) are described and solved using the proposed approach. The corresponding numerical results are presented and compared with those obtained by evolutionary programming methods.
