In this scatter of cases the author notes Hutton's involvement in bridge design in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the early 1770s, and his later publication of manuscripts upon related copies written by John Robertson (1712-1776). Robins appears merely as a consultant over the design of London Bridge in the 1740s, and as mentor of Hutton. Finally, the reputation of Thomas Paine (he of the `Rights of Man') is severely down-graded.
