The author classifies all separable \(L_p\)-spaces, with finite positive \(p\), associated with von Neumann algebras of type I. In particular, any \(L_p\)-space associated with an infinite-dimensional von Neumann algebra is isomorphic with one of the spaces: \(\ell_p\), \(C_p\), or \(S_p\). More detailed classification is given for \(p\neq 2\) and \(p\neq 1\), for \(L_p\)-spaces associated with an infinite-dimensional von Neumann algebra of type I.
