The authors prove the long standing conjecture that the norm of the Schatten-von Neumann class \(S^p\) on a real Hilbert space is \([p]\)-times differentiable. The ingenious proof is based primarily on the paper by \textit{D. Potapov} et al. [Invent. Math. 193, No. 3, 501--538 (2013; Zbl 1282.47012)].
